Brown University’s Department of Education seeks to hire a lecturer with expertise in language acquisition, bilingual education, and/or teaching English Language Learners. The faculty member will teach and advise students in the multi-disciplinary Education Studies undergraduate concentration and an intensive one-year MAT program. The MAT program cultivates deep partnerships with Providence area schools that have significant and growing numbers of emerging bilingual students. The faculty member will teach graduate courses in teacher education; advise, mentor, and supervise student teacher experiences; contribute to professional development of teachers at partnership sites. The faculty member will also teach undergraduate courses in areas of expertise related to language and education. The position is for a three-year renewable term with potential for promotion and begins in Fall 2020. Applicants must have a master's degree or a doctorate in Education, Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or related content fields. A doctorate is preferred. Applicants should have experience in K-12 teaching; teaching and supervision of new teachers; strong knowledge of and expertise in the research and pedagogy on language acquisition for adolescent emerging bilingual students; an ability to work closely and productively with school and university colleagues; and a commitment to advancing educational equity in urban schools. Additionally, we encourage applicants who bring professional expertise in supporting linguistic diversity and the shifting student demographics in public schools; sustaining equitable, culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments; supporting students with disabilities and learning differences; promoting social-emotional development in adolescents; teacher preparation and development across the career; and/or strengthening communities and networks of practice.
