Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Title: Part-time (M-Th, 10a.m.-12p.m.) Literacy/Low Beginning ESOL Teacher for Adult Life Skills/ Employment Program Compensation & Schedule: $28 per hour Schedule: 8 teaching hours: Monday - Thursday 10am-12pm 8.5 hours of prep / case manager update time Total - 16.5 hours per week Locations: Lowell, (IN-PERSON ONLY - CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE WITHIN COMMUTING DISTANCE) Background: The New American Association of Massachusetts (NAAM) is a non-profit organization that provides social support services to refugees and immigrants in Massachusetts. Core services include: ESOL classes, employment, case management, citizenship, youth programming, and more. Purpose: ESL Literacy and Basic Beginning Instructor needed for the in-person adult ESOL program to teach conversation/pronunciation, reading, listening and writing. The instructor will place specific emphasis on employment, life skills, health & wellness, U.S. culture and social norms, and parent-school communications. Active conversation practice is encouraged. Demonstrated ability to teach diverse populations and skill levels in one classroom is required. Creativity, compassion, and high energy is a must.
Teacher may create their own relevant curriculum or utilize a vast database of collaborative print and e-resources in the NAAM collection. Responsibilities:

- Teaching an in-person ESOL class (M-Th, 10a.m.-12p.m.) in reading, writing, conversation/pronunciation, grammar to adult learners (approximately 6-12 students).
- Attending bi-monthly online staff meetings and occasional online professional development sessions.
- Assessing student language skills.
- Creating and implementing ESL lesson plans (textbooks and online resources provided).
- Facilitating small group conversations.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Experience in ESOL teaching and demonstrated ability to teach diverse populations and skill levels in one classroom.
- Bachelor's Degree and TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate.
- Proficiency and experience in Google Meet (our program”s videoconferencing platform), Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
- Speak at least one additional language (preferably Spanish, Swahili, Pashto/Farci, Arabic, or Haitian Creole) preferred.
- Familiarity with common ABE/ESL standards and leveling systems (i.e. NRS, Mass. ELPs, NRS, etc.)
