Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 6pm-8:45pm
Pay Rate: $42.55 per hour
Position: INTERNAL ONLY
SUMMARY: The ESL Instructor position is designed to deliver high-quality instruction to adult learners in person and online. The role focuses on improving English language proficiency, preparing students for GED examinations, enhancing employability and digital literacy skills, and guiding students on career and educational pathways. Instructors are also responsible for documenting progress, assessing learning outcomes, and supporting student success through personalized instruction and referrals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor”s degree in education or a related field.
  • Training and/or experience in second-language instructional methodology.
  • Coursework or training in teaching reading, testing, and assessment.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Required:
  • Minimum of 12 hours of professional development annually.
  • Certification in evidence-based reading instruction methodologies preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The ESL Instructor responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans for both in-person and online sessions, aligned with curricular requirements and tailored to diverse learner needs.
  2. Teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to English as a Second Language (ESL) students, fostering language acquisition and communication proficiency.
  3. Facilitate English Literacy and Civics Education instruction, ensuring students achieve competencies and documenting measurable outcomes.
  4. Integrate digital literacy instruction to equip students with essential technology skills for academic and professional success.
  5. Provide career awareness instruction, guiding students” pathways to postsecondary education, credential attainment, and employment opportunities.
  6. Deliver employability skills instruction to help students secure and retain meaningful employment.
  7. Utilize evidence-based reading instruction methodologies to improve student literacy and comprehension.
  8. Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine appropriate placement, monitor progress, and provide actionable feedback using standardized testing and evaluations.
  9. Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, assessment results, and progress toward individual goals.
  10. Monitor student participation and progress, offering follow-up support and referrals to address barriers and enhance outcomes.
  11. Engage students in regular progress reviews to improve retention, persistence, and overall achievement.
  12. Participate in a minimum of twelve hours annually of professional development activities as determined by Adult Education Program Administrator and Content Specialists.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and instructional staff.
  • Proficiency in instructional methods and technology tools, including learning management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in handling educational challenges.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
