Job Description
Job Description The Department of English at Marshall University invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in English Education and Digital Pedagogy, beginning August 2025 . We are interested in a candidate who could contribute to one or more of the following secondary areas: film studies/new media, contemporary literary theory, disability studies, Appalachian literature, multicultural/international literature, TESOL and applied linguistics, and/or professional writing. Teaching experience (including a minimum of two years teaching English/Language Arts in a secondary-school setting) and evidence of publication or scholarly potential are required. Also required is a doctorate in English/ English Education (preferred) or related field in hand by time of appointment. The individual hired will be responsible for teaching two methods courses for pre-service teachers-approaches to teaching writing and approaches to teaching literature. Duties include a full-time teaching load, in addition to advising, participation in scholarship and/or creative activities, service, and other duties as designated by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and/or Chair of the Department of English. The department also seeks a candidate who will contribute to the University”s general education curriculum and its emphasis on using high-impact teaching practices, particularly those affiliated with one (or more) of the institution”s pedagogical initiatives (e.g., Community-based Learning, Critical Thinking, First Year Seminar, Writing Across Curriculum, etc.). Additionally, the ideal candidate will contribute to the College”s support of interdisciplinary programs of study.
