PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Second Language Acquisition
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in an Intensive English Program in direct support of English Language Learners
- Ability to teach adult students of all ages and from different backgrounds
- Proven ability to teach Intensive English skills including reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar classes to both community and university-bound students.
- Extensive knowledge of pedagogical methods in TESOL
- Ability to communicate in English at the C2 level according to CEFR guidelines
- Display patience and cultural awareness.
Responsibilities:
- Receive initial and ongoing training from and as directed by English Language Institute Director and other officers/administrators of the university
- Teach face-to-face and/or online up to 24 hours per week in one or more ELI programs with an additional working time on campus per week for completing other position duties
- Develop and implement curriculum in collaboration with and under the supervision of the ELI Director and Lead Instructor, including but not limited to:
- Write course outlines, projects, tasks, and lesson plans
- Write procedural descriptions for projects and tasks
- Write test items and assessment instruments
- Create instructional materials for projects, task-based teaching and text-driven lessons
- Develop rubrics for skills assessments
- Administer and report formative and summative assessment
- Assign, review, and assess homework on daily and weekly basis
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of student performance, attendance, and remediation
- Maintain detailed records of student learning outcome measurements
- Display excellent classroom management skills
- Carry out one-on-one conferences with students at session midpoints and on as-needed basis
- Engage in collaborative and independent professional development sessions and tasks related to areas such as curriculum development, research, and accreditation standards compliance
- Help create/support training for new faculty members or other teaching or teaching-assisting employees
- Organize and lead educational field trips for students

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities required.
Work Hours:
Full-time. 37.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.
Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.
