OUR STORY

THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball”s National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:

The Chicago Cubs are in search of a talented and qualified Education Lead Teacher to support the education program and initiatives at the Cubs” Arizona Performance Center. The successful candidate will be dedicated to ensuring our International and Domestic players are prepared for their professional and personal lives through our education program. Working with the Coordinator, Education, the Arizona Lead, Education will oversee and teach all English and Life Skills classes while also collaborating with the entire Education department on learning initiatives and activities for our players.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:
  • Build relationships with players
  • Teach English Language and Life Skills classes as required,
    • Plan class lessons and build curriculum for Language and Life Skills learning
    • Hold players accountable for their learning responsibilities
    • Manage and oversee the scheduling of English and Life Skills classes
  • Provide Spanish Learning opportunities to Player Development staff as requested
  • Provide support and monitoring of players completing their formal education through their online platforms
  • Support the Coordinator, Education in creation and implementation of Education program including Life Skills, Service Projects, and Culture Education
  • Assist with occasional translation on campus when needed
  • Collaborate closely with coaching staff and player development to ensure proper integration of education programs into the overall development of our players
  • Other Responsibilities as assigned by Coordinator, Education


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor”s degree in Education, ELL/EFL Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction, or equivalent
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • 2-3 Years” Teaching experience, preferably in ESL or TESOL or equivalent
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Effective classroom management and engagement skills
  • Able to use technology to enhance the learning experience of learners
  • Ability to work irregular hours to meet needs of players
  • A passion for teaching and building relationships


WHAT SET'S YOU APART:

  • Masters degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or ELL/EFL Instruction
  • Experience working with young adults and non-traditional students
  • Experience in Writing curriculum using Understanding by Design principles
  • Experience using Burlington English curriculum, a plus
  • Understanding and passion for the game of baseball
