 English as a Foreign Language, Assistant Professor (Spring 2025 or Fall 2025).

Kansai Gaidai University has openings for assistant professors in EFL/ESL, starting April 2025 or September 2025. The university is interested in professional EFL/ESL faculty, including those early in their careers.

Responsibilities: Teach 15 hours per week per semester spread across 5 days. Assignments will follow a standardized curriculum and course syllabi with required textbooks. Instructors are also expected to hold at least three hours of office hours per week, attend meetings, participate in screening interviews, hold demonstration classes, and other duties as assigned. Successful candidates should expect to arrive in Osaka two weeks before the semester starts.

Education Required: Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a related area.

Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years of university-level teaching experience is required. Specialization in digital literacy or English for Academic Purposes is preferred. Experience working abroad is an advantage.

Language Requirement: High proficiency in English is required. Non-native English speakers with a TOEFL iBT score of 120 (with 30 points in each section: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening) will be considered.

Term of contract: 5 years, non-renewable. Please note that the mandatory retirement age is 65 regardless of any remaining contract term.

Initial hiring salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Annual salary of about 4,000,000 yen.

Benefits: Benefits provided include furnished, on-campus housing; reimbursement for airfare from the country of residence to Japan for the teacher (not for accompanying family members) upon arrival at Kansai Gaidai; return flight for the teacher on completion of 5 full years; and payment of half of the health and pension insurance (mandated by the university) premiums. Pets are not permitted in faculty housing, and our entire campus, including faculty housing, is smoke-free. Smoking of any kind, including cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, is strictly prohibited both on campus grounds and within the provided housing
