Carnegie Mellon University Qatar invites applications for a full-time (9-month with opportunity for additional summer support) position as Assistant Teaching Professor of English at our Qatar campus beginning in Fall 2025.

Teaching load is 2/2 with a focus on courses within the First-year Writing (FYW) Program. We are especially interested in candidates with: a record of excellence in undergraduate education, including course planning and curricular development in FYW; research interests in FYW; and an ability to connect their teaching and research. Our program strongly encourages collaboration between faculty teaching similar courses.

APPOINTMENT AND RANK

Assistant Teaching Professor is a nontenure-track faculty career position with provision for renewal and promotion to Associate Teaching and Full Teaching Professor. Full Teaching Professors must fulfill two criteria: (1) to be outstanding educators within Carnegie Mellon, for example, through excellence in classroom teaching, curricular development, program leadership, and student advising and mentoring; and (2) to be nationally or internationally known for contributions to education or to research. Assistant and Associate Teaching faculty must demonstrate that they will, in due course, fulfill these criteria.

ABOUT CMUQ

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is a branch campus of Carnegie Mellon University that operates in concert with other U.S. and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English-medium curriculum of the home campus. CMUQ has served a diverse student body since 2004. Current enrollment is approximately 450 students representing around 40 countries, and the several thousand students in Education City are a broad mix of nationalities, with many from the Middle East, North Africa, and Central and South Asia. The majority of CMUQ faculty are on teaching tracks and are hired specifically to teach at this campus; others include visiting faculty from the main campus as well as locally-hired visitors. The position offers competitive salary, travel and housing allowances and other benefit packages, as well as attractive professional development support. The 2/2 teaching load at CMUQ allows time for quality teaching, support for student learning outside of class, close involvement with students and faculty, curricular innovation, and service.
