POSITION

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool in TESOL to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the MS TESOL degree and the graduate and undergraduate TESOL certificates.

Areas of Specialization
We are seeking highly motivated, well-organized individuals to teach in the following subject areas:
  • L2 Methodology
  • Pronunciation
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Teacher Supervision

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates for 400- and 500-level courses must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field, and possess native or near-native fluency in English. Candidates for 300-level courses must be at least a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field, and possess native or near-native fluency in English. Candidates holding a terminal master”s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field are also welcome to apply, but will be considered for lower-division language courses (100 and 200 level) only.
  • Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • This position requires the legal right to work in the United States of America. California State University, Fullerton cannot sponsor part-time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching
  • Preference will also be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

The Department:
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers diverse programs of language, cultural studies, linguistics, literature, and teacher education aimed at meeting the varying needs of today's students. Its Spanish program teaches an array of interdisciplinary courses, from elementary language classes to advanced seminars, and delivers the following academic degrees and programs:
  • Master of Arts in Spanish
  • Master of Arts in Spanish with a concentration in Chicana/Chicano Studies; Bachelor of Arts in Spanish
  • Minor in Spanish
  • Certificate of Spanish for Hispanic Media
  • Certificate of Completion for courses in Spanish for Health Professions; General Education courses
  • Subject Matter Preparation Program (SMPP) for the World Language: English Language Development (ELD) Secondary Credential

APPOINTMENT DATE AND ACADEMIC CALENDAR

The need for part-time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY

All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,925 per month.

The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,008.40 to $7,110 per month.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments. And in some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.
