Position
Reporting directly to the Dean and/or Associate Dean of College & Career Pathways, this position is responsible for providing individualized and / or group instruction for adults with a wide range of academic and career goals. This instructor is responsible for teaching all subjects encompassed in our ELA programs including (but not limited to) reading, writing, speaking and listening. This is an ABE (Adult Basic Education) adjunct faculty teaching position. The schedule of hours and dates may vary and will be established based upon assignment. Teaching assignment may include online or hybrid courses. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The salary for adjunct faculty is $900 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association and is scheduled to begin winter quarter.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position is active in nature and requires standing, lecturing and demonstration of processes in a classroom environment. The job also requires some sedentary time when performing administrative program functions.
Terms of Employment
In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.
This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,058 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,592 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Degree Stipend:
Master”s or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.
The person hired is required to provide authorization for employment in the United States. All offers of employment are contingent to background checks, including employment and required degree/credential verification. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment, but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform successfully in the position. Finalists are required to complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure form as required under RCW 288.112.080. Post offer, pre-employment criminal background checks are also required.

- Develop contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods and strive to create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success.
- Assist in developing, assessing and analyzing program outcomes for the purpose of program improvement and enhanced student learning.
- Assess, monitor, and document student performance.
- Advise students in meeting their educational goals; complete required paperwork and submit required attendance.
- Maintain student records such as grades using the Canvas learning management system.
- Attend scheduled College & Career Pathways department and team meetings as appropriate.
- Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and College policies.
- Support the College's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.
- Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for ABE.
- Maintain office hours convenient to students.
- Develop assessment methods to include individual assignments, group projects, quizzes and exams.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/ learning environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (preferably Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Adult Education equivalent) and one year or more experience teaching this population, or equivalent education and experience. Master's Degree in Adult Basic Education, TESOL, or closely related field preferred.
- Ability to teach skill areas encompassed in an ELA program.
- Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
- Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
- Experience teaching adults and using various teaching strategies that address different learning styles.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally English.
- Experience working on teams in collaborative instructional environment.
- Experience developing curriculum preferred.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
