Position Summary:
The Lead Teacher position is responsible for providing six hours of culturally diverse structured education. This includes, but is not limited to: the development and delivery of educational services to youth in care, spearheading the creation of a curriculum that meets all New York State Educational requirements, ensuring safety through classroom management and overseeing the oversight and administration of initial education assessments, and developing educational goals.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7am-3pm.

- Oversee the daily operations of the educational program
- Provide six hours of culturally diverse, structured education, Monday through Friday
- Create and implement a curriculum that meets all New York State Education requirements, including all basic academic areas: Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, Physical Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Deliver age appropriate and culturally competent material to prepare youth for entering the public school system
- Maintain safety in the classroom and oversee the application of effective classroom management strategies
- Provide the Education Team on assistance on how to teach to a variety of different academic abilities in the same classroom
- Create culturally appropriate activities to celebrate holidays in the United States and youth”s country of origin
- Ensure the Educational Assessment is administered within 72 hours of the youth”s admission
- Review the UC Portal for accurate documentation and ensure deadlines are met
- Create a structure for measuring youth goals and tracking performance improvement
- Develop creative strategies to assist teachers in teaching to different academic abilities
- Review the documentation of academic assessments and goals in the database
- Attend weekly treatment team meetings to review student behavior and progress
- Assist in planning academic field trips periodically
- Supervise the activities of the Teacher and Teacher”s Assistants and other staff providing support services in the school

Qualifications
MINIMUM (Required):
- Bachelor's Degree in Education
- Education related certification
- Bilingual Spanish / English
- New York State Driver”s License in good standing as determined by the Agency.
- Reliable car for reimbursed business use.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
- Passionate and committed educator
- Strong leadership skills
- Certification by a relevant governing authority
- Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
- 2 years classroom experience
