Instructor, ESL Job Type Occasional Position Summary:
- ESL Instructors are responsible for developing and implementing on-site ESL programs with a focus on assisting refugees obtain and keep employment. This program requires an experienced ESL instructor to actively teach courses to refugees.
- Teach ESL to non-English speaking populations using established and recognized best practices.
- Develop curriculum for ESL classes that focus on obtaining and keeping employment.
- Implement various training strategies at sites for better service to clients.
- Promote classes and services to immigrant and ESL communities.
- Maintain records on each course and participants, including but not limited to participation, progress, and impediments to employment.
- Provide written reports and documentation addressing program and refugee population progress.
- Ensure that all office and client record security procedures are followed.
- Maintain a positive, respectful demeanor in all contacts with staff and public.
- Work to build positive, productive relationships with other staff.
- Participate in ongoing training opportunities related to refugee employment and language skills that promote both professional development and growth of the program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Regular and predictable attendance required.
- Valid Driver”s license, proof of insurance and ability to drive on organization business to the mission of Lutheran Family Services.
- Must be proficient with basic computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of products or related software.

- At least five years of experience teaching ESL classes required; experience teaching refugee populations is preferred.
- Bachelor of Arts degree required; Masters in Adult Education or teaching certificate preferred.
- Bilingual language skills are preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing while teaching.
- Hybrid work environment (in office and remote).
- In-person classes held at partner organization(s) including Augustana Lutheran Church.
- Laptop and company-issued cell phone.
