Role Summary:
Seton Catholic Schools, a network of Catholic Schools dedicated to fostering academic excellence, spiritual growth, and cultural diversity, is seeking a passionate and dedicated English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher. The ideal candidate will support students whose primary language is not English, helping them achieve proficiency in English while respecting their cultural background and promoting their success in all academic areas.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement effective ESL instructional strategies tailored to the needs of K4-8 students.
- Create lesson plans that integrate language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with academic content.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials to address diverse learning styles and language proficiency levels.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Assess students” English language proficiency using ACCESS.
- Regularly monitor and document students” progress, providing feedback and adjusting instruction as needed.
- Prepare and submit progress reports and communicate students” progress to parents and school staff.
- Classroom Environment:
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and success.
- Establish clear behavioral expectations and manage classroom dynamics effectively.
- Foster an environment of cultural respect and sensitivity.
- Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support ESL students” academic and social integration.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ESL instruction and educational technology.
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, committees, and school events.
- Faith and Community Engagement:
- Integrate Catholic values and teachings into the curriculum and classroom activities.
- Actively participate in the spiritual and communal life of the school.
- Promote the mission and values of the school in all interactions with students, parents, and staff.
- Bachelor”s degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field; Master”s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in ESL or bilingual education.
- Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
- Fluency in a language other than English is an asset.
