The Education Specialist for English as a Second Language (ESL) reports to the Director of CET. The position teaches English as a Second Language to adults in multilevel classes, on the JKC campus, or at extension sites in Mercer County evenings, and/or Saturdays. She/he is primarily responsible with coordinating the academic & cultural enrichment services for the ELS students. The Education Specialist I is responsible for providing direct educational support services and making academic assessment to ESL students. S/he is responsible to assist in completing academic reports and assisting with the planning, recruiting, implementation, and evaluation of the educational and community service projects with students participating in the ESL program. S/he is also responsible for assisting with coordinating academic/community service programs and leadership activities for ESL programs.

- Proctor skills tests students for placement and progress.
- Uses integrated and contextualized workforce prep instruction.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and two or more years
- ESL teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent English language skills are required, as well as a formal knowledge of English.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Must have experience working with diverse cultures.
- Knowledge of MS Office and /or experience in spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Ability to navigate / use the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- TESL certification preferred.
- Proficiency in a second language.
- Ability to work with a constantly changing and culturally diverse population.
