Instructor General Summary:
As an ESL Instructor at Trident Literacy Association, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to students of varying proficiency levels. You will conduct morning and/or evening classes, facilitate conversation sessions, and participate in planning activities to ensure effective curriculum delivery. Additionally, you will undergo regular training to maintain certification and stay updated on assessment policies.

As an ESL Instructor at Trident Literacy Association, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to students of varying proficiency levels. You will conduct morning and/or evening classes, facilitate conversation sessions, and participate in planning activities to ensure effective curriculum delivery. Additionally, you will undergo regular training to maintain certification and stay updated on assessment policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver ESL instruction to students in accordance with established curriculum guidelines.
- Plan and prepare engaging and effective lesson plans tailored to the needs of different proficiency levels based on Ventures Curriculum Basic, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
- Conduct morning and/or evening classes as scheduled, adhering to designated class times.
- Facilitate conversation opportunities, allowing students to practice speaking and listening skills in a supportive environment.
- Participate in designated split classes, utilizing multileveled curriculum as agreed upon.
- Allocate appropriate planning time for each class session, ensuring thorough preparation and effective use of instructional materials.
- Collaborate with colleagues to assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
- Attend and actively participate in required training sessions, including Student Data Confidentiality Agreement, BEST Plus certification training, SC Assessment Policy training, and annual ESL Instructor orientation.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessments.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and administrators to address any concerns or inquiries related to ESL instruction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- ESL teaching certification (e.g., TEFL, TESOL, CELTA) preferred.
- Previous experience teaching ESL to diverse student populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging and effective ESL lessons.
- Knowledge of ESL assessment practices and proficiency levels.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.

- Mobility: Ability to move around the classroom and interact with students effectively during instruction, and capability to stand or sit for extended periods during class sessions.
- Visual and Auditory Abilities: Clear vision and hearing to observe student engagement and respond to questions or concerns promptly, and ability to see and hear students clearly during conversation sessions and assessments.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using teaching aids, such as whiteboards, markers, multimedia tools, and instructional materials, and ability to handle paperwork and maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, colleagues, and administrators, and ability to articulate instructions clearly and facilitate conversation sessions to enhance students' speaking and listening skills.
- Physical Stamina: Endurance to conduct morning and evening classes as scheduled, maintaining energy and enthusiasm throughout instructional sessions, and capacity to handle the demands of planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to different proficiency levels.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to accommodate varying classroom environments and teaching methodologies to meet the needs of diverse student populations, and willingness to adjust teaching strategies based on ongoing assessments and collaboration with colleagues.
