Job Description

ESL TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL LEARNINGCOMMUNITY: PARTICIPANT

Description: Participants will collaborate and share learning to enhance the effectiveness of EL
instruction in EPS classrooms. PLC conversations will be grounded in four texts:
? And Justice for ELs: A Leader's Guide to Creating and Sustaining Equitable Schools by
Ayanna C. Cooper
? Breaking Down the Wall: Essential Shifts for English Learners' Success Margarita
Espino Calderon, Maria G. Dove, Diane Staehr Fenner and others
? The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners by TESOL Writing Team
? The School I Deserve: Six Young Refugees and Their Fights for Equality in America by
Jo Napolitano

Working Times/Dates/Modality:
? 12 hours synchronous: once a month, in-person, 90 minute meeting on the first
Wednesday of every month from October to May.*
? The dates are as follows: 10/2, 11/13*, 12/4, 1/8*, 2/5, 3/5, 4/2, 5/7
¦ *Due to holiday/conflicts, the November and January dates will be on the
second Wednesday rather than the first.

? The in-person meeting will be from 3:15-4:45 pm at the Keverian School.
? 13 hours of asynchronous reading analysis and preparatory time for meeting
participation.

Requirements: Current assignment as a licensed ESL Teacher or EL Coordinator

Preferred Qualifications: Experience leading professional development or professional
learning communities, and a Masters degree in ESL Instruction or Leadership

Remuneration: $40/hr for 25 hours, totaling $1000. Remuneration will be based on hours
worked. Facilitator will also receive a copy of all four texts
