JOB SUMMARY:
The Dual Language Spanish and English Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating educational environment that promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, and multicultural competence. The role of the Dual Language Teacher is to develop an instructional environment and use teaching strategies to promote student growth and to inspire and empower students to construct a thriving future.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required - Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and/or Bilingual Education
High level of proficiency (speaking, reading, writing) in Spanish and English for Bilingual teachers
High level of proficiency (speaking, reading, writing) in English for ESL teachers
Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth
Teaching in a dual language/bilingual/ESL classroom
Student teaching experience in an elementary and/or bilingual classroom(s)
Knowledge and experience in effective lesson planning as well as second language acquisition
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Educator License w/ Stipulations-Transitional Bilingual Educator
Endorsement(s): Bilingual Education Teacher - Spanish; and/or English as a Second Language
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of dual language education principles and best practices.
- Knowledge of state curriculum standards and assessment practices.
- Familiarity with language acquisition theories and strategies for teaching Multilingual Students (English Learners).
- Proficient in English and Spanish, if applicable, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective classroom management skills, including the ability to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
- Strong organizational and planning skills to develop and implement effective lesson plans.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction to enhance learning.
- Ability to reflect on teaching practices and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.

- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
- Design and implement rigorous and differentiated instruction in both Spanish and English to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Utilize a variety of research-based dual language instructional strategies to engage and challenge all learners.
- Implement the district”s Multi-tiered System of Supports framework to support the academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs of multilingual students.
- Classroom Environment:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Establish and maintain classroom routines and procedures that support a positive learning environment.
- Implement restorative practices to build a positive classroom environment and to address conflicts constructively.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Use assessment data and knowledge of second language acquisition theory to guide instructional planning and monitor student progress.
- Conduct formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents regarding academic performance and behavior.
- Maintain updated certification to administer WIDA suite of assessments for identification and placement of multilingual students.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure the success of the dual language program.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends.
- Actively engage in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Cultural Competence and Advocacy:
- Promote and celebrate cultural diversity within the classroom and school community.
- Advocate for the dual language program and the benefits of bilingualism and biliteracy.
- Serve as a role model for students in demonstrating respect for cultural differences and valuing bilingualism.
