Description
JOB GOAL:
To ensure that each LEP student will increase proficiency, in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the English language in all four core content areas, along with developing the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, understand cultural heritage and diversity, respect human dignity and be responsible to self and community and become a contributing member of society.
Essential and Marginal Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Itinerant position: Flexible in the ability to travel to multiple locations to provide support to ELD students.
2.Organize and maintain all classrooms and equipment in functioning order.
3. Create a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning through organization.
4. Team teaches/plans with core regular ED teachers
5. Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge in technology education. Incorporate equipment and apparatus and use technology where possible to supplement instruction.
8. Communicate regularly with parents and be available for educational purposes
9. Demonstrate appropriate planning and the use of a variety of instruction
techniques and strategies. Plan purposeful assignments for teacher assistants(s) and volunteers(s) and, in conjunction with the principal, evaluate their job performance.
10. Assess the English proficiency of the LEP students and design a program to raise
their proficiency level.
11. Assist in planning and differentiating the curriculum for LEP students.
12. Help students to complete the tasks and prepare quality projects/performances to
meet the SDoL core content items and exit outcomes.
13. Maintain good classroom organization, management and discipline.
14. Conduct an ongoing assessment of student progress inorder to provide instruction to ensure continuous student growth.
15. Provide an appropriate educational program for each student in conjunction with the goals of the Strategic Plan.
16. Pursue ongoing professional growth opportunities.
17. Attend staff meetings, and department meetings and serve on building and District committees as requested
18. Provide regular ED teachers with resources and strategies appropriate for LEP
students.
19. Exhibit life-long learning practices (Continuing Education/Staff Development
participation).
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Appropriate PA teacher certification.
2. BA required in appropriate major study. Masters preferred.
3. Strong motivational, communication, and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work effectively with a team of adults.
5. Willingness to participate in shared decision making, using styles of consensus,
collaborative decision making.
6. Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students and
parents.
7. Mastery of special styles of pedagogy (ex. cooperative learning, learning styles
and multiple intelligences.
8. Teaching job experience required but will vary based on vacancy
9. Must be able to organize a classroom and deliver a developmentally appropriate program to students.
10. Knowledge of assessing social agencies
11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.
