DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

May include the following:
  1. Coordinate with the Career Pathways Program Manager, Site Coordinator, and Point-of-Contact at an employer to design a curriculum for English Language Learners to support the needs of the employer as well as the learners.
  2. Coordinates with the Site Coordinator to facilitate new student orientation process which includes registering new students, administering required baseline assessments, scoring of assessments, and introducing students to facility, site and services in a pleasant and effective manner.
  3. Develops daily lesson plans for each class tailored to the functional needs of the employer and the instructional needs of students.
  4. Ensures that a minimum of 75% of paid time is devoted to instruction, counseling, and/or assessment of students.
  5. Ensures that students sign in and out of class.
  6. Maintains retention in classroom and/or site by outreach and recruitment efforts, daily classroom structure, and as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  7. Incorporates functional context, health literacy, civics, workforce preparation, digital literacy, and transition skills in lesson planning and curriculum based on the Texas Adult Education Content Standards.
  8. Maintain and update instructional materials for the classroom by keeping classroom and/or site inventory and informing immediate supervisor of material needs.
  9. Consult with immediate supervisor and/or instructional coach regarding assistance in developing lesson plans, planning activities, instructional materials, classroom resources, classroom or site management, and staff development concerns.
  10. Submit to supervisor weekly attendance and lesson plans and other reports as requested.
  11. Ensure accountability requests regarding TEAMS (Texas Educating Adults Management System) are being met. Responsible for outcomes such as Retention and Measurable Skills Gains as outlined by Texas Workforce Commission Adult Education and Literacy (TWC-AEL).
  12. Participate in professional development opportunities as outlined by TWC-AEL staff requirements and/or as assigned by supervisor.
  13. Understand and provide information concerning CAICT programs including inviting "internal" colleagues as guest speakers at sites and classrooms, and make appropriate student referrals.
  14. Understand and provide information concerning priorities and procedures of different agencies represented by site collaboration and local community resources by inviting representatives from other agencies to be guest speakers for sites and classrooms.
  15. Collaborate and coordinate adult education activities, classes, etc. with site partners and other community organizations including other CAICT programs, in delivering services in the most effective and seamless manner.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENT/QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred:
  • Bachelor”s Degree in Spanish, Education with teacher certification in Spanish, or from a Spanish-speaking University in any field
  • Experience teaching adults and/or facilitating groups
  • Experience working with educationally and/or economically disadvantaged adults
  • Experience working in collaborative or “team” environments
Required:
  • Bachelor”s Degree in any field
  • Spanish/English bilingual in reading, writing, speaking and listening
  • Academic Spanish at a C2 (high advanced) level
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to attend and manage an in-person class (no remote instruction)
Other Requirements:
  • Valid Texas Driver”s License
