Description
Definition An employee in this class position provides support for ESL testing at the district level, involving interaction with other departments and all schools. The employee will carry out ESL testing procedures as outlined by WIDA, NCDPI, and Gaston County Schools.
Duties and Responsibilities • Completes required training session(s) prior to administering ESL assessments. • Administers district ESL assessments such as WIDA screener tests throughout the school year, and ACCESS testing in the spring of the year. • Maintains security of testing materials (test tickets, manuals, writing booklets, etc.). • Maintains accurate counts of test materials upon receipt, prior to distribution to the school level, and upon return from the school level. • Maintains accurate records as required (test schedule, time/mileage sheets, etc.). • Assumes other special tasks/duties as assigned by ESL and/or Testing Departments. • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to use sound judgment in working with difficult situations and under short time limits. • Demonstrated problem-solving ability. • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in written form with a variety of audiences. • Ability to be tactful and courteous. • Ability to be organized, concise, logical, and efficient. • Ability to sort and distribute testing materials. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Ability to respond to questions based on considerable knowledge of the department. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, as well as ESL and testing department staff. • Exceptional attendance record.
Physical Requirements • Must hold a valid driver”s license and be able to drive among multiple work sites. • Must be able to use computers/computer applications. • Must be able to perform light work exerting a negligible amount of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, testing materials. • Requires the physical ability and visual acuity to work at a computer for long periods of time.
Minimum Education and Experience • Current North Carolina teaching certificate required. • ESL teaching experience preferred. • Minimum of one-year of testing experience. • Computer experience required (demonstration may be required if interviewed). • Must be willing to learn how to administer ELS assessments
