SUMMARY:
To instruct and assist students in mastering critical literacy skills while at the same time encouraging and supporting their positive academic and social growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises classroom, students, and teacher aides (when applicable).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
- Bilingual Endorsement or in progress
- Experience in Secondary English Learners instruction
- Experience with implementing English Learner strategies and supports in Science and Math curricula
- Co-teaching experience preferred
- Experience in Dual Language instruction preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements
- Certification registered with Lake County ROE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 113 Teacher's responsibilities include, but are not limited to "Performing the Characteristics of an Effective District 113 Educator" which include the following:
- Align teaching and professional practices with the District 113 Beliefs and Guiding Principles.
- Be proactive about professional growth, which includes maintaining a vision for personal development, goal setting, and critical reflection.
- Understand how learning occurs and make choices about curriculum planning and instructional methodology based on research, best practice, and data.
- Understand adolescent behavior and make choices about classroom management based on research, best practice, and data.
- Develop skills as a diagnostician and have an expansive repertoire of strategies to adjust instruction based on an understanding of the students.
- Develop a sense of ownership with the curriculum. Work with course team members to ask questions and revise curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Align assessment with the outcomes of the course to ensure the measurement of student growth and learning.
- Develop and model collaboration, communication, problem-solving skills with students, other staff members, parents, and community members.
- Accessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and providing progress on learning on a regular basis.
- Working cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, education, and remediation, and enrichment of individual students with specialized needs.
- Adhere to Board policies and district and school procedures.
- Performing other duties as may be assigned by the building administrator.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
- Ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner.
- Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student and other sensitive District information per the district's confidentiality guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
