Job description and summary:

Our teaching centres and online courses build cultural links between the UK and 38 countries around the world, as well as supporting the cultural relations programmes in arts and sciences delivered by the British Council.

 

Role Purpose

  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission

 

Main Accountabilities

Teaching

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning needs and modes of learning
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning.

Teaching Centre Activities 

  • Support teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans.
  • Attend staff meetings and otherwise contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  • Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values.   

Compliance 

  • Ensure guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, Health and Safety.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion 

  • Ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is taken into account when planning and delivering lessons and engaging with customers and colleagues.

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Undergraduate and or University degree
  • Cambridge CELTA and or Trinity Certificate TESOL

Desirable

  • Recognised Diploma in English as a foreign language e.g. DELTA  or Trinity Diploma

 

Work Experience

Essential

  • 2 year’s experience post-certificate (CELTA and or Trinity certificate TESOL)
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the center
    • Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
    • Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
    • Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)

 

Contract Duration: 2-year Fixed Term contract option of renewal

 

Contract Teaching Hours- 21 teaching contact hours/33 weekly working hours

 

Local Restrictions on Employment

  • Applicants must be EU nationals and have the right to work in Slovakia  

 

Benefits

  • Income Tax & National Insurance - Subject to Slovak Income Tax (19%) and National Insurance (13.4%), all deducted at source
  • Fares & Travel Allowance- Economy airfares for the successful individual and accompanying family to the post at the beginning and end of the contract. This allowance is only payable to post holders not currently resident in Slovakia.
  • Baggage Allowance - Successful applicants who travel from outside Slovakia to take up the post are entitled to an accountable baggage allowance of up to £1,200 (or equivalent at applicable exchange rates) or £2,000 in the case that the post holder is accompanied by his/her dependent family.
  • Annual Leave Allowance - 35 days (in addition to public holidays)
  • Medical Allowance - Subject to the local Slovak health care system.
  • Settling-In Allowance- Successful applicants who travel from outside Slovakia to take up the post are entitled to a settling-in allowance of the equivalent of 2 weeks’ salary (unaccompanied) or 3 weeks’ salary (accompanied)
  • Any other allowances: In accordance with local law, the British Council contributes to lunches for all local staff on contract by providing luncheon vouchers, provided conditions for entitlement are fulfilled.
