The GED Instructor establishes the best possible learning situation for refugee/immigrant clients in a multilevel classroom of adult learners in Science, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies. The GED Instructor incorporates current teaching techniques, subject area developments and up-to-date technology providing a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher-directed instruction, self-paced instruction and computer-assisted instruction to meet the needs of the learner. Areas of instruction are specifically geared toward the General Educational Development (GED) High School Equivalency Test.

The hours for the GED Instructor are 20 per week comprising classroom, testing, prep, data collection & reporting, and EnGen license administration & platform understanding. The classroom hours are: Monday 3:00-6:00 pm, T/W/Th 3:30-5:30 pm. The rest of the hours can be carried out at instructor's preference.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, minimum
  • 2+ years of experience teaching GED to adults, required
  • 2+ years of curriculum design in ESOL and GED instruction
  • 2+ years of experience teaching ESOL to adults of various levels of English
  • Robust knowledge of computer-assisted instruction and platforms
  • Adult Education and/or TESOL or similar certification, preferred


Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement curriculum of GED instructional needs for the following subject matters: Science, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Administer licenses for EnGen English-language upskilling platform to clients and provide computer literacy training as needed
  • Provide culturally competent, equitable client services with minimal supervision
  • Provide classroom and remote instruction and administer assessment in accordance with grant requirements
  • Prepare comprehensive lesson plans that meet learners' needs
  • Complete required paperwork (lesson plans, attendance records, test results)
  • Administer student evaluations as required by funder
  • Create, maintain, and submit timely and accurate client records and input data databases
  • Assist in creating and implementing client recruitment and retention plan in conjunction with counterpart in the Workforce Solutions Department
  • Assist with recruiting volunteers as needed
  • Train, supervise and effectively engage volunteers as needed
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365, Zoom, and WhatsApp
