Gatehouse Awards, an awarding organisation specialising in International ESOL qualifications, are looking to appoint a part -time senior Examiner to work together with the Assessment Manager on the quality assurance and standardisation of the work of the team of markers and examiners for one of our regulated IESOL qualifications. The expected start date is 2nd September 2024.
This is a part-time, maternity cover role which will involve a combination of home and office based working (typically at least one day office based a week, with the expectation of extra days during the initial training period). The initial contract period is 9 months, with a possible extension to 12 months.
If you are a qualified and experienced EFL teacher, preferably with experience of assessing EFL examinations, we would like to hear from you.
Main responsibilities:
* Conducting sample checks of assessment and moderation decisions for the qualification following a risk based approach
* Providing accurate, detailed and constructive feedback to other members of the assessment team for the qualification
* Reviewing new assessment materials (with the option to undertake training as an item writer for some qualification suites)
* Maintaining the online task bank (full training provided)
* Ensuring that all processes are followed and records updated
* Maintaining and monitoring relevant internal records
* Reporting any issues to the Assessment Manager
* Overseeing the application of the appeals and candidate access process for the qualification
* Providing regular feedback to the assessment team, and prompt responses to queries as they arise
* Conducting initial assessments of maladministration and malpractice allegations
* Identifying any areas for improvement within own area of work
* Preparing for and participating in standardisation meetings with the team
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of teaching ESOL in EFL setting
* Current examining / marking/ moderating experience with an Awarding Body
Qualifications
* A bachelor's or master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (or within a similar academic area)
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills - ability to liaise with and
* communicate confidently, courteously and clearly
* Sound knowledge of the CEFR.
* Sound knowledge of key assessment principles.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Commitment to deadlines and ability to effectively organise own workload.
* Competent user of Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
* Responsive to feedback on performance.
