Employment Status: Regular/FT - 185 day calendar

Description: Responsible for providing instructional support, implementing interventions and monitoring academic progress in dually identified students.

Essential Functions:
- Provide instruction to dually identified student.
- Implement language instructional programs and prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student's abilities and learning styles.
- Plan and use appropriate interventions, learning strategies and materials.
- Assess and progress-monitor students.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress in grades pre k-8.
- Support the development of curriculum guides and rubrics that address the needs of ELs enrolled in bilingual education programs for English Language Arts K-8 and universally-designed related tools and resources aligned to the Common Core State Standards and college readiness.
- Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, assessments, technology, and materials for ELs that include native language, English Language Development, and EL materials and curricula.
- Support the development of performance assessments designed to assess an ELs language and literacy skills.
- Support the vetting of high-quality instructional and intervention materials for ELs in grades K-8.
- Informs the district's framework for effective literacy and language instruction.
- Create common tools and resources that demonstrate effective literacy practices for ELs in both the native language and English.
- Support the implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies that create a clear pathway for the success of ELs.
- Collaborate with other teachers.
- Responsible for completing other related duties as assigned.
- Understands and complies with the policies, rules, and regulations regarding the English learners. Advocates for the program needs that are required to meet the learning needs of the English learner.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
- Serve on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
- Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
- Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary
- Interact with public in official capacity when required
- Interact with Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Qualifications:
- Graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in Education or a related field of study.
- Experience as an EL teacher, preferred
- TESOL endorsement preferred
- Knowledge of literacy instruction in both native and English preferred.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
- Understanding of first and secondary language literacy development
- Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
- Ability to manage, problem-solve, and delegate as situations dictate
- Ability to recognize failures and learn from mistakes to improve conditions for working and learning as a team
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Training in varied instructional design
- Training in computer technology
- Background/knowledge base in methodology and supervised practice
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Record-keeping skills
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional requirement to travel daily
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
- Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop
- Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled work days, except calamity days
- Weekend/evening/summer work
- Requirement to lift and/or carry up to a maximum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to a maximum of 100 pounds, various supplies and/or equipment
