Job Summary:

The ESL Lead Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of English as a Second Language, (ESL) instruction for Adult Education. Prepares lesson plans that are aligned with English Language Proficiency Standards. Provides learner guidance to students. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals. Prepares and maintains required documentation and reports. Maintains a secure classroom environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach ESL classes that consist of standards-based lessons in reading, writing, speaking, listening and/or language skills based on the individualized learning needs of students. Classes will be taught face-to-face, but if deemed as necessary, teach online classes via Blackboard.

  • Utilize pre-test scores to develop targeted instruction for students; devise student learning plans for all students based on pre-test scores and prepare students for post-testing. Utilize and assign online resources accordingly to support skill proficiency and test preparation

(20%)
  • Implement student retention activities and promote adult education and ESL throughout the service delivery area.

(2.5%)
  • Complete and maintain appropriate attendance and assessment records and ensure timely submission (daily) of data. Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives and document in GALIS.

(2.5%)
  • Participate in staff development.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technologies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time instructor position. Work load is Monday-Friday.

Rate of Pay:

$47,000 per year.

Location:

ESL Classes will primarily be held on the Coweta campus, but travel to other classes throughout the service delivery area may be required. Are held on Carroll, Coweta, Douglas and Troup campuses. Some classes may be held at community or Work Place Literacy sites. Main class load location will be determined by the Dean and Program Manager of AE.

Travel:

Travel to other campuses is a possibility for meetings, trainings, coverage for teacher absences and professional development.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching in a formal educational setting and/or teaching experience in middle, secondary, adult or post-secondary education

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • ESL Teaching experience in adult education within the last two years.
  • Advanced degree in content areas of ESL, reading, math, English, curriculum and instruction, adult education, or special education.
  • Experience working with GALIS or within other databases.
  • Strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills;
