The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. This position works with the non-credit Community English as a Second Language (ESL) program at the Community College of Aurora (CCA). The Community ESL (CESL) program has an extremely diverse student base, serving immigrants and refugees from approximately one-third of the countries in the world. We strive to provide the best learning experience and the most welcoming environment possible.

The Coordinator provides general administrative and instructional support for CESL, including the program's ESL and Citizenship classes, under the direction of the CAE Director. The ideal candidate has knowledge of pedagogy and curricula related to ESL. A strong commitment to helping the individuals whom we serve from the Aurora/Denver-area immigrant and refugee communities is a requirement of the position. Dependability, strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing superior customer service are vital to the success of this position, as well as technical proficiency in basic office software and experience with data entry. Working some evening and Saturday hours will be required.


Instructional Support
  • Hire, train, and supervise CESL adjunct instructors.
  • Support instructors and students with multiple modes of instruction and in the use of various online platforms.
  • Organizes and conducts CESL staff meetings.
  • Conduct class observations and provide feedback to instructors and the CAE Director.
  • Schedule classes each term, including assigning instructors and students to classes, and creating and tracking instructor contracts
  • Collaborate in the creation, delivery, and tracking of professional development opportunities for instructors and colleagues.

Student Support
  • Coordinate support for students with disabilities.
  • Answer student questions related to the program and registration.
  • Assist students in transitioning to other CCA programs, including College Prep ESL.
  • Refer students to campus and community resources as needed.

Curricular Support
  • Collaborate on the research and development of program initiatives, including the implementation of active learning practices, digital literacy instruction, workforce development, and Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Develop and implement effective assessment processes.
  • Attend relevant training to keep current in the fields of Adult Education and ESL

Registration Support
  • Facilitate student registration processes by disseminating information and assisting with registration, payment, refunds, class changes, etc.
  • Maintain data in Excel, Banner, Teams, and other software systems as needed.
  • Help with the invoicing process for CESL students as needed.
  • Contact students as needed.
  • Track prospective students by term.

Marketing Support
  • Maintain community partners list and email marketing materials each semester.
  • Initiate and monitor email and WhatsApp communications.
  • Table at College and community events to conduct outreach to prospective students.
  • Monitor CESL program inboxes.
  • Develop innovative recruitment methods to engage potential students in the community.
  • Respond to student, staff, and community questions and requests.
  • Create, update, and distribute marketing materials for CESL and citizenship classes.

Data Management & Additional Duties
  • Cultivate a positive team culture through proactive check-ins, facilitation of group meetings, and related initiatives.
  • Create and administer course evaluation surveys.
  • Monitor program databases, including enrollment, attendance, and assessment records.
  • Prepare student demographic, enrollment, and retention reports.
  • Incorporate the core principles of Inclusive Excellence in daily interactions and activities, and engage in the college's broader Inclusive Excellence efforts.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of ESL teaching experience
  • Experience collaborating alongside linguistically and culturally diverse colleagues
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams), database programs, and email
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed

  • Degree or Certificate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field
  • Two or more years of adult ESL teaching experience
  • Familiarity with the CASAS assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Aurora/Denver immigrant communities
  • Familiarity with Banner student information system
  • Interest in computers and the use of technology in ESL teaching and outreach
  • Bilingual speaker of English and one of the prominent languages spoken by students in our program (Spanish, Amharic, or Arabic)


Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $54,633.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
