Job Role

The ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructional Paraprofessional will provide language and academic support to English learners grades PK-12 in small group and one-on-one settings. Will be a team member who supports the development of English proficiency for students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as the goal of academic success.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to meet NCLB highly qualified status required (48 accredited college credit hours or passing score on CISD paraprofessional assessment exam)
  • Previous experience working with children (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills __ verbal and written
  • Ability and desire to work effectively with students at a variety of grade and language levels, as well as with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, staff, and school personnel at a variety of campuses
  • Proficiency with technology and ability to navigate language learning and instructional software
  • Demonstrated organizational ability, effective time management, and commitment to job duties


  • Provide academic support to English learners grades PK-12 in small group and one-on-one settings
  • Work closely with members of ESL departmental team to coordinate instruction for English learners across multiple campuses and grade levels
  • Assist students in logging into and using language learning software
  • Monitor student use of language learning software
  • Gather formal and informal data regarding student performance and provide feedback to teachers to help identify areas for additional support
  • Provide instructional support in areas identified for growth
  • Supervise students and maintain a positive and effective learning environment
  • Provide structure, direction, and motivation for students
  • Maintain confidentiality with student information and student records
  • Other duties as assigned
