SUMMARY:
  • Instructor needed for teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) night classes through the Hudson Adult Learning Center at Hudson High School.

    Instructor provides reading, writing, speaking, listening, and digital literacy instruction to non-english speaking adults. The instructor is responsible for implementing a student-centered, goal-oriented ESOL curriculum that aligns with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education (MA ELPS) and the vision of the HMALC Adult Education program.

    Duties include planning and delivering lessons, monitoring and assessing student progress on an ongoing basis, participating in the intake process as requested, and collecting, recording and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner.

  • Adhere to the curriculum of the Adult Learning Center program.
  • Provide reading, writing, speaking, listening, and digital literacy instruction.
  • Actively participates in planning to assure students' needs are being effectively addressed.
  • Collect, record and report all necessary information related to students in a timely manner.
  • Use Google Classroom for posting and collecting teaching materials and assignments.
  • Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience.
  • Conduct instruction remotely via Google Meet, during school closings.
  • Participate in staff meetings and engage in 20 hours of paid professional development.
  • Contributes productively to the school as a whole.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Experience with Adult English Language Learners (ELLs) required
  • Experience with MA curriculum Frameworks for ESOL and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Ed. preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Existing US Work Authorization
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 - 9:00 PM.

Pay Rate: Including prep time and time for student counseling, pays 10 hours per week for a 5 hour class at $36.01. This position does not include benefits.

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
