Job Title Part-Time Reading Instructor - MJC - POOL Site: Modesto Junior College Salary Range / Other
The Hourly Range: $58.44 - $93.43
Doctorate Range: $68.87 to 95.89
(2021-2021 Certified Part-time Instructor/Overload Hourly Salary Schedule)
Personnel new to the District are limited to a maximum 10th step placement based on previous experience: $90.73.
Benefits
With the exception of Workers' Compensation benefits; this classification is not eligible for District paid benefits.
Position Summary Information
Scope of Assignment
Under the general supervisor of the discipline Division Dean, will teach courses in vocabulary, spelling, and/or reading comprehension in accordance with course descriptions, oiutlines, and class schedules; evaluate progress of students; advise students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in education with a specialization in reading or teaching reading OR bachelor's degree in any academic discipline AND 12 semester units of course work in teaching reading AND master's degree in English, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, composition, comparative literature, TESL, or psychology OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
Master's degree in education with a specialization in reading or teaching reading OR bachelor's degree in any academic discipline AND 12 semester units of course work in teaching reading AND master's degree in English, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, composition, comparative literature, TESL, or psychology OR the equivalent.
Desirable Professional Characteristics Example of Duties
Teach college courses in reading and spelling as assigned; preparation of materials; grading student work; maintaining an effective classroom environment and workspace.

Applications will be reviewed by a screening committee which will select candidates to be interviewed. After interviews, a recommendation will be forwarded to the President, Chancellor, and Board of Trustees.

Final appointment is subject to confirmation by the Board of Trustees.
