Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking skilled teaching professionals for a short-term role as International Orientation Instructor . This assignment begins on or about August 1, 2024 and concludes with a 1 hour debrief session on or before August 30, 2024. The Instructor will provide enthusiastic instruction to roughly 300 F-1 international students through culturally based orientation sessions at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. Sessions will focus on academic expectations and norms in the U.S. classroom, immigration requirements, and cultural adjustment to living in the U.S. Instructors will be expected to teach course material in an engaging way in a theater style set up.
The main objective for these sessions is to orient students to U.S. expectations, norms, and nuances of learning in American graduate school classrooms. Emphasis on communication norms such as idioms, email conversations, discussions (in-person/virtual), and presentation skills is expected as well. The successful Instructor will use our established curriculum and lesson plans to create an enjoyable learning environment for newly arrived international graduate students. The instructor will participate in a 2-hour online onboarding and training session, plus a 1-hour debrief after the program concludes.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach assigned sections of International Orientation.
- Provide feedback and edits to Carey Business School's established International Orientation curriculum.
- Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable cultural and linguistic guide to roughly 350 students.
- Participate in communication with Carey Business School staff, faculty and program manager.
- Attend an online training and final recap sessions.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the school.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be available to start after August 1, 2024.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Ability to lead an effective and dynamic class with skill and patience.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Online learning applications.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Two or more years' teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years' experience teaching international students strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching cross-cultural communication strongly preferred.
- Master's degree preferred. MA/MEd TESOL or closely related field preferred.
- Experience in higher education, especially in a business school, or corporate setting preferred.
- TESOL/TEFL certification desirable.
