English Language Learner Teacher (per-diem)

The St. Johnsbury School District (STJSD) serves more than 1,000 students, Pre-K through 8th grade and tuition our high school students to several area public and independent high schools. We are looking for a per-diem based English Language Learner Teacher for the 2025 school year to support learners PK-12.

Job Summary:

The Saint Johnsbury School seeks a per-diem based ELL teacher to support English Learners for the FY25 school year. The ideal candidate will have a Vermont state license in teaching English Learners (also known as ELL, ESL, TESOL) and will have experience establishing a safe, welcoming, positive learning environment for English Learners.

General Responsibilities:

• Follow all guidelines and procedures for English Learners as outlined by the VT Agency of Education and St. Johnsbury School District
• Screening of students who may qualify as English Learners
• Facilitation and administration of WIDA assessments
• Providing instruction and intervention to support English Learners
• Collaboration with families and classroom teachers to provide instructional opportunities.
• Knowledge of best practices regarding relationship building, creating a safe yet challenging learning environment, and motivation and student management, particularly for students who are not yet fully proficient in English.
• Evidence of strong connection with students and families
• Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
• Knowledge of elementary research-based best practices, including project-based and hands-on learning.

Qualifications:

• Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
• EL endorsement required.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Compensation and Benefits

The position is for the academic year starting in August 2024 and does not offer any benefits.
