DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking a number of Adult Educators to teach both day and evening courses at the Nassau BOCES Adult Learning Centers. Teachers will teach English language skills to a large community of adult language learners. Although previous adult education experience is preferred, it is not required.

Part-Time Adult Educators can work the day or evening sessions. Newly certified teachers, as well as current and retired teachers, are encouraged to apply. Hours worked will apply to the New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS). Responsibilities of Part-Time Adult Educators include:

• Teaching English language skills to adults during three-hour day sessions at the Elmont Library:
  
• Monday and Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; or
  
• Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  
• Teaching English language skills to adults during three-hour evening sessions at either Valley Stream, Freeport or Levittown locations:
  
• Monday and Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.; or
  
• Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  
• Attending 14 hours of compensated Professional Development.
  
• Utilizing the curriculum provided as well as the educational software to teach the courses.
  

REQUIREMENTS:

• New York State Education Department Initial, Permanent or Professional Teaching Certificate.
• Experience as a teacher in ESOL or Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) preferred.
• Availability to work two day or evening sessions per week.
• Availability to attend up to 14 hours of Professional Development which will be compensated.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications and utilizing educational software.
