RISE is an alternative middle and high school within Lawrence Public Schools that works with at-risk and proven risk students in a trauma sensitive, supportive environment. We are seeking an ESL teacher to do the following: Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards. Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district's/school's instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed
Understand and apply effective strategies for intervention and differentiation in the classroom, including serving English language learners and students with individualized education plans (IEPs).
Embed opportunities for student critical-thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, as well as use of technology and digital media, into all lesson and unit plans.
Integrate reading and writing into every class taught, every day.
Maintain strong classroom management and hold students accountable for upholding school rules, student-developed norms, and classroom expectations.
Serve as an advisor to a group of 12 to 15 multi-age students who you meet with daily and to whom you provide support. Develop a sense of community within the advisory group and implement any advisory curriculum. Mentor and support these students' development of academic, social, health, and parenting
Qualifications:
Experience teaching special education at the middle or high school level preferred
Appropriate content/program area educator license (English as a Second Language) and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not preferred
SEI Endorsement preferred
Bachelor's degree required
