Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for anticipated openings of secondary ESL teacher positions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be responsible for teaching students of limited English speaking ability. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations. Teach pupils utilizing a course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction. Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils' progress and interpret the school program. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing student learning and social adjustment. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with state-mandated and district testing program. Participate in curriculum development programs as required. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. Attend monthly faculty and departmental meetings. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal
The salary and terms of employment shall be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract.
Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
This position subject to funding.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment.
