EL INTERVENTIONIST

Department:English Learners

Bargaining Unit:Grand Rapids Education Association (GREA)

Salary:Determined by the collective bargaining agreement and a comprehensive benefits package

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the English Learners (EL) Executive Director, the EL Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted academic second language and grade level supports to eligible EL students in all core content areas at GRPS.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide and deliver academic support services to eligible EL students
  • Manage and maintain accurate student records
  • Visit with identified students to identify suitable options and help resolve problems.
  • Develop a positive relationship with students and school community and maintain constructive relationships with staff, students, and administration.
  • Interact with co-workers, administration, and students in cooperative, supportive, and positive ways.
  • Participate in district led EL PD (WIDA/ SIOP).
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • ESL/Bilingual Spanish endorsement or Masters in TESOL

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Michigan teacher's certificate
  • SIOP Training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of working with WIDA and Common State Standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of curriculum development processes.
  • Experience working with at-risk learners and special needs.
  • Ability to effectively function as a professional team member.
  • High level organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and punctuality.
  • Possesses high level of communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be able to deal with the multiplicity of an urban community population

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
