Description of Service Opportunity:
The ESL teacher will teach English Learners in grades 9 - 11 in the MLE Summer Enrichment Program at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. The teacher will instruct students using ESL thematic curriculum, the WIDA 2020 ELD Standard, and appropriate English language development pedagogy and sheltered immersion methodology. The teacher will plan and teach lessons using the SIOP Model of instruction and implement appropriate strategies for students with diverse linguistic and learning needs.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in English as a Second Language/Applied Linguistics.
Experience: At Least 3 years experience teaching middle or high school ESL and teaching linguistically diverse students in an urban setting.
Languages: Proficiency in English required, fluency in a language other than English is preferred.
Certification: MA Teacher Certification in secondary ESL and/or SEI grades 9 - 12 (or grades 5 - 9)
Length of Contract:
July 8, 2024 to August 2, 2024
Contract Amount:
$50.00 per hour, Not to exceed $5000.00
Cambridge Public Schools is committed to slowing and/or stopping the spread of COVID-19. - ESL teacher will be skilled in effective instructional strategies for teaching ELLs, and experienced in planning lessons using Sheltered Immersion methodology.
- The candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues, demonstrate high expectations for English language learners, be effective in working with immigrant families, and create a learning environment that fosters mutual respect and cultural sensitivity.
