Description of Service Opportunity:
The ESL Teacher will provide English language learners at St. Peter School with English language development instruction after school. Instruction will focus on developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.
The ESL teacher will be skilled in effective instructional strategies for teaching English language learners and sheltering instruction. The candidate must demonstrate high expectations for ELLs and students with diverse needs; create a positive, culturally responsive learning environment that fosters mutual respect; and plan lessons using the SIOP model of sheltered instruction.
The ESL teacher will work at a rate of $60/hr for a total not to exceed $1,620
Minimum Requirements:
Requirements: The ESL teacher will be skilled in effective instructional strategies for teaching English language learners using Sheltered Immersion methodology. The candidate will be experienced in providing ESL instruction, effective in working with immigrant families and creating a positive learning environment that fosters mutual respect and cultural sensitivity.
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in ESL, Applied
Linguistics, and/or teaching ELs.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience teaching high school ESL students from linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Languages: Proficiency in English and fluency in a language other than English is preferred, but not required.
Certification: MA Teacher certification in ESL/ELL or SEI
Length of Contract:
November 6, 2023 to June 7, 2024
Contract Amount:
$60.00 per hour, Not to exceed $1620.00
Cambridge Public Schools is committed to slowing and/or stopping the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, as a condition of employment with Cambridge Public Schools, all new hires will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 no later than their first day of work. Written requests for either a religious exemption from this requirement based on sincerely held religious beliefs, or for a medical exemption based upon clear documentation from a medical provider should be submitted to the attention of the Chief Talent Officer.
