This position works in the Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP) within the Department of Teaching and Learning, College of Education and Human Ecology.

The Academic English Writing (ESL Composition) Assessment Coordinator is a team member in the Intercultural English Language Programs and works closely with the IELP Director; the IELP Curriculum Team; and the IELP support staff and senior lecturers to develop and implement Academic English Writing Assessment for English Language Learners. The Coordinator should have considerable experience working with multilingual writers, deep understanding of the second language writing principles, pedagogy, and assessment

Duties:
  • Coordinate the Academic English Writing Assessment, including rater training, calibration sessions, quality control, data analysis and score reporting.
  • Develop, design, and improve the Academic English Writing Assessment materials, documentations, and other resources for raters and test takers in the AEWP.
  • Maintain and update the Academic English Writing Assessment administrative process, including developing, designing, and enhancing the policy and workflow of the rating and score reporting process.
  • Assure and maintain the Assessment reliability and validity.
  • Provide Assessment reports to stakeholders within the university.
  • Create and maintain Assessment shells in Canvas.
  • Collaborate with the IELP Director and AEWP Curriculum Coordinator on the alignment of the AEWP curriculum and the AEWP assessment.
  • Teach AEWP courses in Autumn, Spring and Summer semesters.
  • Provide resources related to second language writing assessment for instructors and raters in the program.
  • Serve as a rater for AEWP tests.
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of our international special programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in TESOL, educational assessment, or a field closely related to foreign/second language testing (e.g. educational measurement, psychometrics, TESOL with a focus in language testing, or applied linguistics)
  • Training and expertise in language assessment including but not limited to psychometric knowledge of test and scale development, examination of qualified test specifications, qualitative and statistical analyses for assessment reliability and construct validation
  • Knowledge of computer-based testing and ability to design computer-based testing specifications or website for large-scale assessment (i.e., efficient assessment layout planning for testing, rating, proctoring, administration, and item/response databank managing purposes)
  • Prior university-level teaching experience to multilingual writers
  • Extensive experience with university-level second language writing assessment and curriculum design
  • Knowledge of different genres and styles for graduate and undergraduate writing
  • Proficiency with educational technology and course management system (e.g. Canvas)
  • Experience in program planning and administration
  • Evidence of current professional activities in the field of TESOL
  • Familiarity with technologies for assessment purposes

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree in TESOL, educational assessment, or a field closely related to foreign/second language testing (e.g. educational measurement, psychometrics, TESOL with a focus in language testing, or applied linguistics)
  • Knowledge of large-scale writing assessments such as TOEFL and IELTS.
  • Experience working with multimodal forms of writing
  • Knowledge of another language or experience living/teaching abroad

Additional Information:

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $55,000-$70,000
