General Description of the Position
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean, School of Graduate, Adult and Extended Studies, the part-time Graduate Writing Specialist will provide support for graduate students at every stage of their development as scholars and writers, including, but not limited to: adjusting to graduate-level writing, thesis and dissertation writing, outlining, editing, proofreading, drafting, revising, capstone development, research papers, writing for a variety of audiences and developing productive writing habits. The Graduate Writing Specialist will provide instruction through various modalities, including face-to-face and online instructional interactions. He/she will expand existing writing support programming for graduate students while also assessing the need for and feasibility of establishing a Graduate Student Writing Center.

The candidate must possess the following skills and abilities to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Extensive experience teaching, mentoring, and grading college-level students, preferably at the graduate level
- Proven writing abilities, such as published articles in peer reviewed journals, grants, or other significant writing projects
- Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate programming for graduate students from a variety of academic disciplines and backgrounds
- Ability to provide constructive and targeted feedback on writing needs, including ways to improve overall quality and presentation
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, supporting the other work of Graduate Studies and Research, faculty and program directors as needed
- Willingness to be a self-starter with attention to deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse student population
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Qualification Standards
- Bachelor's degree in English, Composition, Rhetoric, Communication Studies, Education, TESOL, or related field with an emphasis in writing; or 3-5 years of related professional, discipline relevant experience
