PURPOSE: The Director of International Education and Services provides leadership to, and professional support for all Bowie State University efforts supporting international students' and scholars' services. The Director will play a key role as part of the International Office team. The International Office is the lead campus organization for oversight, management, and development of a broad range of international activities including: international student and faculty exchange programs, study abroad opportunities, undergraduate and graduate international recruiting and admissions, immigration policies and procedures compliance, support for international visiting scholars, support and advising for all international students, and support and advising for all students and faculty traveling abroad.
The Director of International Education and Services will work with the Associate Provost to provide leadership in areas impacting Bowie State University's global presence. The Director will contribute to the establishment of the strategic vision of the office and work across all academic and administrative units to establish BSU's global education strategy. She/He will work to facilitate a deeper engagement of BSU's students and faculty with partners around the world, while growing the University's international visibility and reputation. The Director will lead BSU's international education and services that are designed to provide an efficient, supportive and welcoming infrastructure for students and scholars engaged in international education. These services include:
Office of International Affairs: Support the colleges' international efforts and is BSU's gateway for global partners and for visiting international delegations, scholars, fellows, and exchange students.
Office of International Services: Provide expertise on immigration policy, and facilitates transition to BSU and the U.S. for international students, scholars, staff, and their families;
A partnership supporting the recruitment, preparation, retention and success of international students.
General Duties and responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Minimum Master's degree required, with one degree desirably in areas related to international education. PhD or terminal professional degree (preferred).
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in academic administration required. Significant and progressive administrative and management experience including, but not limited to personnel management, budget management, program analysis, and reporting. Significant and progressive experience and knowledge of best practices in one or more of the International Office's primary areas of responsibilities (e.g. international student recruiting and admissions, international student services, exchange programs, visa issuance, etc.). Demonstrated experience of collaborative engagement with a breadth of internal and external constituencies to achieve strategic or programmatic goals. A thorough understanding of standards, processes, and best practices in study abroad and international student and scholar services. International experience studying and/or working abroad. Experience working with underrepresented students to foster inclusion and access, or similar experience serving minority populations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of USCIS regulations and policies; SEVISārelated processes and federal regulations and reporting requirements that apply to international students; supporting relevant information technology and software systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Terra Dotta, and Cognos); significant awareness and knowledge of international issues and experience that may include multicultural understanding, international living and/or travel, facility with foreign languages, etc.; demonstration of strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Provision of English as a second language instruction and a model intensive English program supporting BSU's TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) efforts; provision of data and various reports; provision of fiscal oversight and management of the office budget; and leading efforts for grant sourcing in support of international efforts for faculty and students.
The Director will:
- Possess a record of accomplishments in providing a bold and strategic leadership for an international office.
- She/He will provide internal communication to raise awareness of BSU's global endeavors and interact with key internal stakeholders to lead the internationalization of the campus.
- Externally, the Director will represent Bowie State University to partner institutions, foundations, and consortia and will cultivate relationships to place our students internationally, attract global learners, stimulate international research, grow funding for international study, and enhance BSU's international reputation.
