Job Description
General Description
Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Education Programs, the ESOL Instructor will provide English language instruction to students at the Adult Learning Center.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Develop theme-based, contextualized lessons to create a high quality English curriculum for adults
- Create a student-centered, engaging learning environment, as required by CUNY
- Evaluate student progress and provide feedback, both formally and informally
- Administer and monitor student testing, including Best Plus and Best Literacy
- Maintain attendance records and work collaboratively with office and counselors on student participation and needs
Two positions are available.
- Daytime class meets Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm beginning January 22, 2024
- Evening class meets Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6 pm - 9 pm beginning January 8, 2024
Other Duties
- Complete 14 paid hours of professional development through Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) offerings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- BA or BS in education or related field, TESOL
- Minimum two years related teaching experience, preferably in grant-funded literacy programs
- Experience creating thematic, content-based curricula
- Best Plus certified preferred
- Proficient at integrating technology into lessons
- Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills
