Reporting to the Head of Centre, the Head of English and Academic Skills will lead a team of English tutors, ensuring that all English and Academic Skills modules across all courses and programmes are delivered to agreed standards, follow the agreed curriculum, and utilise agreed assessment modes, resulting in the best possible outcomes for students and the best possible student experience. The Head of English will also manage the delivery of modules and lead on teaching, learning and assessment initiatives in the Centre to embed good practice in language development and academic skills within both Academic English Skills and subject module delivery.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Leadership, Management, and Personal Development:
* Lead and motivate a team of English tutors to enhance student outcomes and experiences.
* Collaborate with the Centre Leadership team to develop and implement effective learning, teaching, and assessment strategies.
* Identify and implement language and Academic Skills development strategies, evaluating their impact on students.
* Conduct performance management, setting objectives, and conducting regular reviews for direct reports.
* Recruit academic staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
Academic and Operational Management:
* Plan and oversee the delivery of English and Academic Skills modules, ensuring optimal student outcomes.
* Oversee the production of documentation for courses, including outlines, handbooks, and teaching materials.
* Lead the design and implementation of fair and secure assessment activities.
* Collaborate with the leadership team to introduce new programs and methods of delivery.
Academic Standards, Quality Assurance, and Enhancement:
* Monitor and respond to External Examiner feedback, implementing necessary actions.
* Facilitate high standards of teaching and learning, supporting continuous improvement.
* Contribute to the production of evaluative documents and reports for submission to Study Group and LJMU.
Partnership Management:
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with key academic contacts at the university.
* Ensure effective interaction between university staff and academic staff for a seamless transition for students.
* Represent the ISC for English and Academic Skills at meetings with the university, providing presentations and data analysis as required.
ABOUT YOU
* Bachelor's degree (Essential)
* Relevant Teaching qualifications e.g., DELTA, TEFL, MA TESOL (Essential)
* Leadership and management training (Desirable)
* Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment (Essential)
* Experience in leading a team to achieve high levels of student academic performance and outcomes against agreed targets (Essential)
* Experience in teaching English to international students in UK Higher or Further Education (Essential)
* Experience in planning and running complex education courses in English and Academic Skills (Desirable)
* Experience in leading the provision of academic skills within HE environments (Desirable)
* Experience of partnership working in the education sector (Desirable)
