Job Title: English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

Location: Indiana Math and Science Academy West

Position Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students whose primary language is not English. The ELL Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement effective strategies to help ELL students achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assessment and Placement:
  • Administer language proficiency assessments to determine students' English language proficiency levels.
  • Collaborate with school staff to place ELL students in appropriate instructional settings.
  1. Curriculum Development and Instruction:
  • Develop and implement effective instructional strategies and materials to meet the diverse needs of ELL students.
  • Design and adapt curriculum to align with state and district content standards.
  • Provide direct instruction in English language development, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  1. Individualized Learning Plans:
  • Develop and implement Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for ELL students, setting specific language acquisition goals and monitoring progress.
  1. Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support ELL students in mainstream classrooms.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to ELL instruction and cultural competence.
  1. Parent and Community Engagement:
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with parents/guardians of ELL students, providing regular updates on progress and offering resources for language support at home.
  • Foster positive relationships with community organizations and resources that support ELL students and their families.
  1. Data Collection and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of ELL student progress, including assessment data, ILPs, and anecdotal notes.
  • Generate regular reports on student achievement and language proficiency levels.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Valid teaching certification and/or ESL/ELL endorsement.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching English Language Learners, preferably in a K-8 educational setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
