Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9-12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.
The Opportunity:
Fountain Valley School seeks experienced and dynamic educators for an English as a Second Language teaching position. This position reports directly to the Director of the Academic Skills Center, and is responsible for teaching classes to students in grades 9-12. ESL classes at FVS develop and support primarily international students” academic and social language proficiency skills, preparing them for the rigor of mainstream classes. ESL classes include an historical thinking skills course that works in tandem with students” humanities classes. The ESL instructor also assesses the English proficiency of admitted English Language Learners (ELLs) and helps to develop appropriate plans of academic support.

Salary Range: $36,000 - $52,000 depending on experience and degrees

General Duties:
- Teach 4 sections of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
- Demonstrate an ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a department
- Show an appreciation for the craft of teaching along with a passion for English Language Learning as a discipline
Other Duties:
- Coach two seasons of athletics/afternoon activities
- Serve as an adviser to approximately six students
- Participate in a class level retreat along with other faculty members
- Participate in committees as assigned
- Participate in co-leading an Interim trip (Spring experiential learning trip)
- Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight duty team (1 weeknight per week, and 9 weekends per year)
Qualifications:
- Find joy in working with adolescents and in school life
- Engage with energy, kindness, and a sense of humor
- Experience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate language learning tools
- Demonstrate cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies
- Bachelor”s degree with a major in TESOL, linguistics, education or similar field; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferred
Working Conditions:
- Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events
- Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred
