There is strong demand for English language learning in Vietnam, being driven by the country’s economic growth, increasing internationalisation and a government vision for the future which is predicated on significantly improving levels of English language proficiency. The British Council’s teaching presence currently counts three locations in Ho Chi Minh City and three in Hanoi, but four new centres are slated for opening in 2023 as part of an ambitious project to very significantly expand our presence over the coming years to respond to market demand and opportunity.

This is creating opportunities for employment in ELT in a country which is a dynamic, diverse and exciting place to live and work. The teaching activity has a national management structure, with a Director of English Language Services (DELS) supported by Two Cluster Academic Managers, Operations and other Business Support teams, 10 Senior Teachers and a similar number of Coordinators.

Teachers are usually assigned to work in one teaching location, although sometimes work in more than one location is required. Teaching young learners (aged 5 to 17) represents over 70% of the activity nationally. The British Council currently delivers courses to around 4,500 young learners and 1,700 adults at any one time. New recruits will be joining a diverse international team of over 130 English teaching professionals supported by an extensive academic management team.
