English Language Learner Teacher

Description:
ELL teachers are the language experts in the buildings where he/she serves. Teachers are expected to evaluate, instruct, and improve English proficiency as well as serve as resource to the school for English language concerns.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the voice of the Office of English Language Learners in their schools. ESL/ ELL teachers will share information that is imparted during ELL/ESL staff meetings to school staff.
Teach reading and writing in accordance with the school's literacy curriculum.
Encourage ELL/ESL children to verbalize frequently.
Model grammatically correct English with a well developed vocabulary (including vocabulary from science, math and history content areas).
Incorporate collaborative grouping in lessons so that students are speaking with each other.
Have empathy for other cultures and languages and for the potential challenges that ELL/ESL students and their families face when they are new to U.S. school and living situations.
Serve as a model of the potentialities of dual languages and dual or multi-cultural backgrounds through support for students.
Serve as an example of excellent ELL/ESL teaching to other teachers in the school, including maintaining parental contacts, keeping writing portfolios, establishing a print rich visual classroom, encouraging student-to-student extended conversation about learning, and employing ELL/ESL teaching strategies in assisting students and teachers.
Additional Information:
Massachusetts ESL/ELL Teacher License - K-12 Certification Preferred
Master's Degree Preferred
