ENGLISH LANGUAGE LECTURERS

Applications are invited for English language teaching positions in the English Language Institute (ELI) at Alasala Colleges, Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Both male and female candidates are sought for a January 2021 start date. Advanced English speakers preferred. Priority will be given to qualifying candidates that are already in Saudi Arabia.

We are a growing and dynamic language institute involved in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to undergraduate students. Foundation level modules focus on developing general academic skills, while higher levels follow a discipline-specific EAP approach.

Beyond teaching responsibilities, there are also opportunities for staff to develop their careers by contributing to both ELI and university-level committees. Moreover, the ELI demonstrates a strong commitment to the professional development of teaching staff and offers regular professional development activities, which staff are encouraged to lead and participate in.

Alasala Colleges is a young institution in Dammam in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Established in 2016 it contains four faculties, with the accreditation process currently underway to become a University. Alasala Colleges has 3,100 undergraduate students and over 150 staff members and is set to grow further in the coming years. All four faculties provide excellence within every activity at the four different colleges; based on an innovative and dynamic knowledge- and skills-orientated curriculum, male and female undergraduate students are guided by international faculty through their respective disciplinary studies.

ABOUT DAMMAM

Alasala Colleges is located in Dammam, and forms a part of the largest metropolitan area in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, including the “Triplet Cities” of Dammam, Al Khobar, and Dhahran. A vibrant coastal city on the Persian Gulf, it is known for its arts and pearl culturing, and has a variety of natural landscapes, parks, and beaches that can be easily visited. Nearby Bahrain is an hour away by car (75km). Greater Dammam is served by several major highways and can be reached by air via King Fahd International Airport Dammam.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

The salary range for the position is 12,000 – 14,000 SAR/month depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and transportation allowances, one return flight to the country of permanent residence per academic year, medical insurance, and 45 days annual leave.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants should be educated to master’s degree level, preferably in TESOL/ Applied Linguistics or equivalent, and should have at least two years of full-time post-master’s relevant teaching experience, preferably at tertiary or foundation year level. Additionally, applicants should have a recognised teaching qualification, such as a CELTA or DELTA, and should be able to demonstrate an interest in one or more of the following areas: English for Academic Purposes (EAP); technology-enhanced learning; assessment, syllabus and materials design; placement testing; Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
