Columbus Technical College is seeking an individual to serve as a Part-time Adult Education English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor for our Adult Education Program for morning, afternoon and evening classes located on and off campus (6- county service area). This is an hourly paid position with employment being contingent upon program enrollment. This individual will be responsible for preparation and delivery of lesson plans and routine daily maintenance for classroom instruction to students 16 years of age and up. This position also requires evaluation of student progress in attaining goals and objectives; attend staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences, and ensure all safety and security requirements are met in trainings. This position is part-time/exempt.

Please note the following information regarding this position:
  1. May require teaching on or off campus throughout our service delivery area (Muscogee County, Stewart County, Quitman County, Chattahoochee County, Harris County, and Talbot County)
  2. May require travel

Responsibilities:
  • Instruct students through Adult Education core curriculum
  • Instruct students through English only instruction, in English as a Second Language core curriculum
  • Follow state standards to develop lesson plans, using clearly stated goals and objectives
  • Evaluate students” progress in attaining goals and objectives
  • Provide learning guidance and feedback to students
  • Develop teaching methods and maintain management procedures and documentation
  • Promote the adult education program to public and private organizations through the Service Delivery Area
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training areas
  • Monitor class attendance and assist with recruitment and retention efforts
  • Employ strong time management and organizational skills
  • Use effective written and oral communication
  • Possess general computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Administer pre and post-test to ascertain in TABE 11/12 / Best Literacy
  • Greets visitors and students, determines the nature of their need or request and provides information
  • Working knowledge TABE On-line Software to include: pulling test scores, determining next test, create test sessions, create test tickets
  • Working knowledge of GALIS data system to include: looking up student information, printing schedules,
  • Assists with Student Orientations and Student IDs
  • Processes new student applications and related information and prepares student files to include underage paper work, foreign passports and United States Visas
  • Provides secretarial/clerical support such as incidental typing and filing
  • Assist with registration, graduation activities and other Adult Education activities and ceremonies
  • Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior
  • Support Intake Staff
  • Other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree from a college or university, preferably in education or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year specialized teaching experience within an adult education environment in a classroom setting
  • Working knowledge of GALIS and TABE Online

Salary/Benefits:

Pay Rate is $20.00 per hour. No benefits
