The School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences at Trinity College Dublin seeks applications from qualified candidates with an international research and teaching record for the post of Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics (TESOL). The post-holder will join an experienced team of applied and theoretical linguists based in the School’s Centre for Language and Communication Studies (CLCS).

 

The post-holder will contribute to the growth of a world-class research and teaching programme in Applied Linguistics within CLCS, the School and at Trinity College Dublin. The post-holder will bring a track record of third-level teaching, research and engagement to leverage existing expertise.

 

It is essential that the successful candidate is an active researcher with a record of peer-reviewed publications, experience of third-level teaching and assessment, and potential to recruit and supervise postgraduate students as well as to seek external funding opportunities. The successful candidate will engage in research and dissemination initiatives at a national and international level.

 

The successful candidate will have an appreciation of the range of research and intellectual interests represented in Applied Linguistics in an international setting and will be able to articulate a clear vision for the development of their field in the university, nationally, and internationally. They will contribute in particular to the growth and development of the university’s existing Joint Honours undergraduate programme in Linguistics as well as postgraduate taught courses, especially the M.Phil. courses in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics.

Qualifications

 

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline of Applied Linguistics, preferably with one of the following specialisms: Bilingualism, Multilingualism, Second Language Teaching, Language Assessment, Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, Language Teacher Education, TESOL. The successful candidate will have experience of third-level teaching and a growing record of published research output in their area of Applied Linguistics. Candidates will have a record of achievement in teaching, supervision, administration and engagement with the community relative to their career stage.
